The Role:
Are you passionate about ensuring children receive nutritious meals that support their growth and development? We are seeking a Cook to oversee the food service operation at our childcare center or central kitchen.
This role involves various responsibilities, including food preparation, purchasing, sanitation, inventory management, and recordkeeping.
By ensuring the smooth operation of our food service program, you'll play a crucial role in supporting CAPSLO's mission and helping individuals and families in our community.
We are looking for someone who has: • Combination of two years of experience in institutional or commercial food services and/or culinary science education.
• Experience cooking for large groups is preferred.
• Is bilingual, English and Spanish preferred.
• Dependable, insured transportation and valid California Driver’s License (mileage to be reimbursed) and acceptable driving record.
A DMV printout and proof of insurance will be required.
As a Cook: • You will successfully complete a certified Food Safety and Sanitation class within 90 days of beginning employment.
• You will prepare and transport meals.
Participate in nutritional menu planning.
• You will develop, test and standardizes recipes.
• You will weigh, measure and pack food to be delivered to multiple centers, ensuring food temperature and quality.
• You will maintain a semiannual inventory for food, paper goods, and equipment.
• You will estimate and develops orders monthly for kitchen staples; orders and purchases fresh items weekly.
• You will maintain records and perform data entry: Delivery Receipts, Equipment Service Record, Temperature Record, and Kitchen Financial Record.
Submit purchase receipts for vouching.
• You will keep the kitchen in a clean and sanitary condition throughout food preparation; clean the kitchen thoroughly after meal service and maintain food in proper storage conditions.
• You will in some cases, serve as driver for food service delivery vehicle.
Communicate with Center Supervisors and Teachers daily about the contents of each delivery.
• You will attend cook workshops and participate in career development activities such as adult education courses.
• You will wash dishes, cookware and utensils.
• You will be dedicated to the goals and objectives of CAPSLO.
• You will use reasonable precautions in the performance of one’s duties and adhere to all applicable safety rules and practices; and act in such a manner as to assure at all times, maximum safety on one’s self, fellow employees, clients and children.
• You will performs other duties as assigned.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications: • Must be at least 18 years of age by date of hire.
• Must submit proof of current vaccination status for measles, pertussis, and influenza (or a current, signed influenza declination form) in compliance with SB 792.
• Must comply with the CAPSLO COVID-19 Vaccination Policy, either being fully vaccinated or sign a COVID-19 vaccination declination form.
• Must complete a health screening physical completed within 30 days prior to employment and a current TB skin test/Chest X-Ray.
• Employment is contingent upon meeting all job requirements and background requirements: criminal history check (Inclusive of DOJ, FBI and Child Abuse), acknowledgement of child abuse reporting responsibility, criminal record statement (Form LIC508), etc.
A criminal history clearance is required prior to employment.
• Upon hire agency staff will check the Megan’s Law (or the current sexual predator website) to ensure each staff being hired is clear for employment.
Program administrative staff will check the website annually to ensure all program staff are cleared to work.
• Must meet the Head Start Performance Standards and State requirements.
• Employment in Head Start, Early Head Start and Migrant and Seasonal Head Start Programs is contingent upon approval of the Policy Council.
