Sony SS-F6000.
The floorstanding equivalent of the Dayton B652 for value/quality?
ZeosPantera has made the Dayton B652's widely known on reddit and I feel reddit should also be made aware of the Sony SS-F6000's.
For all the young folks building their first setup or anyone on a budget the SS-F6000's are excellent towers to buy at around $200 a pair.
A lot of audiophiles seem to shoot down Sony speakers instantly based on nothing more than the fact that Sony made them and never listen to the speakers for themselves.
I think these speakers deserve a closer look.
This is the closest to an expert review I found and there are a ton of reviews on Amazon, some from self proclaimed experts or audiophiles.
Maybe someone else on here owns a pair and can talk about them with more expertise, or maybe an expert is willing to buy a pair and give them a fair try.
When I listen to classical music and close my eyes, my mind expects to see something more like this (spacecase-25's setup from /r/avporn) when I open them again.
I broke them in for about 30 hours, ipod on shuffle at low-medium volume, before really listening to them.
After breaking them in I used the MCACC auto mic setup on my Pioneer VSX-32 receiver and they did require equalizer adjustments, so keep in mind that adjustments are necessary to make these reach their full potential.
To fit my personal tastes after the auto calibration I turned the high frequencies down a hair and turned up the bass a dB or two; These produced such great sounding bass that I decided to turn down my crossover from 80hz to either 50 or 60hz, I would need to double check to be sure which.
I assume a crossover this low is typical with high-end towers, but I did not expect to be able to do it with a pair so cheap and have it sound so great.
The increased subwoofer volume this allowed makes epic movie scenes even more epic while keeping my music listening crisp and clear without overly boomy bass since it is all coming from the towers.
The room they are in is about 14'x25'x7.
5' (LxWxH) with a
roughly 9' listening distance.
$180.
